THE GROUNDBREAKING 90 MINUTE SERIES THAT REVOLUTIONISED YOGA

BYL is widely regarded as London’s leading hot yoga specialist, pioneering at the forefront of the hot yoga revolution. All the forms we offer are carefully selected to serve as the spokes on a wheel synergistic with the centre, the one that started it all – the Bikram Yoga 90 minute series.

The class is designed for ALL levels, Beginners to Advanced. During the 90-minute session work out every muscle, tendon, joint, ligament, organ and gland while systematically moving oxygenated blood to every cell of the body.

A single session of Bikram Yoga works every joint, muscle, tendon, ligament & gland in the human body

The yoga postures are practised in the safe environment of a heated room, increasing blood circulation, muscle relaxation and minimizing the risk of injury. Strengthen your cardiovascular system and flush toxins from the body.

The type and sequence of the stretching and compression postures ensure that the health effects are optimised, massaging all internal organs, flushing out the cardiovascular system, and stimulating the endocrine and nervous systems, thereby releasing any deficient hormones and enzymes.

The result is the improvement of health to all systems, reduction of stress, strengthening of the immune system and healing of injuries. Regularly practising Bikram Yoga can reduce many symptoms of chronic ailments and diseases, including back and joint problems, diabetes, asthma, arthritis, sleep disorders, digestive problems, tendonitis, skin conditions, and others.

Leave each class feeling energised and rejuvenated. Bikram Yoga builds strength, flexibility, balance, grace and endurance, ultimately promoting the creation of a healthy and lean body inside out. Additionaly, it has positive effects on mental well-being, making you more productive, balanced and focused, which in turn results in an eventual union of the body, mind and spirit.

FAQ

Is this class suitable for beginners?

Bikram Yoga is the original Beginners hot yoga. It is designed to help you get stronger, leaner and more flexible no matter what level you are. It is the ideal practise for Beginners.

What do I need to bring?

For all our classes you’ll need a yoga mat, two large towels and a bottle of water (all these items are rentable at the studio).

What is the temperature? Will it be manageable for me?

Bikram Yoga is done at 40 C, resembling a balmy, tropical beach climate!

As with any activity, for most people the first class can be challenging (typically due to the heat). It typically gets easier quickly from there and very likely you’ll soon be craving the heat, particularly as your body starts to change.

We have students ranging in age from 17 to 80, so no matter what your age or level of fitness, Bikram yoga is a great way to begin. We encourage you to 'listen' to your body at all times in the yoga room, initially taking small steps as your body gradually begins to open up.

What's the calorie burn? Will I lose weight?

Clients have been measured at our studio burning 1400+ calories, however the general consensus for those doing the full (90 minute) class with reasonable effort is that you’ll burn around 800-1000 calories (expecting around a third fewer calories burned for the 60 minute sequence).

People often report seeing changes in their bodies after the first few classes. Clothing feels looser, and the body starts to reshape itself as it becomes stronger and leaner.

How does it compare to lifting weights or spin/cycling?

Yoga shares some of the benefits with weightlifting and spin/cycling, however is markedly different in other ways. Weightlifting when done correctly can strengthen and build mass, while spin/cycling can represent a good cardio workout and effective way to bulk up the legs. While yoga is also excellent as a cardio workout, unlike weights or spin/cycling, yoga provides deep stretches into muscles and joints, helping redefine the body to make it stronger, leaner and more flexible.
