The BYL Express class is the 60 minute version of the original 90 minute Bikram Yoga class, except that with Express, some postures have one set instead of two. Some refer to this as is Bikram Yoga ‘lite’, but while shorter than the original series, this 60 minute sequence represents a wonderful, fast paced 60 minute challenge with all of the postures contained in the original.

Look for this class in several places on our schedule, including early mornings, lunchtimes and late evenings. We also offer our popular BYL Music Beats Express, which is the same as BYL Express, only with an amazing soundtrack designed to uplift and inspire.

BYL Express is a perfect way to get a powerful yet calming Bikram Yoga fix to meet even the tightest London schedules.

While not requirement, some newbies may want to commence their practice with a few classes of the 90 minute Bikram Yoga series before attending their first BYL Express, as the 90 minute version runs through two sets of every posture, allowing new yogis little more more time to learn each posture.

Is this class suitable for beginners?

Yes. The 60 minute Bikram Yoga sequence is suitable for Beginners, though if you’re starting from scratch, you may find it helpful to try a couple of the 90 minute classes so you can learn the sequence at a slower pace.

What do I need to bring?

For all our classes you’ll need a yoga mat, two large towels and a bottle of water (all these items are rentable at the studio).

What is the temperature? Will it be manageable for me?

Bikram Yoga is done at 40 C, resembling a balmy, tropical beach climate!

As with any activity, for most people the first class can be challenging (typically due to the heat). It typically gets easier quickly from there and very likely you’ll soon be craving the heat, particularly as your body starts to change.

We have students ranging in age from 17 to 80, so no matter what your age or level of fitness, Bikram yoga is a great way to begin. We encourage you to 'listen' to your body at all times in the yoga room, initially taking small steps as your body gradually begins to open up.

What's the calorie burn? Will I lose weight?

Clients have been measured at our studio burning 1400+ calories, however the general consensus for those doing the full (90 minute) class with reasonable effort is that you’ll burn around 400-600 calories (expecting around a third fewer calories burned for the 60 minute sequence).

People often report seeing changes in their bodies after the first few classes. Clothing feels looser, and the body starts to reshape itself as it becomes stronger and leaner.

How does it compare to lifting weights or spin/cycling?

Yoga shares some of the benefits with weightlifting and spin/cycling, however is markedly different in other ways. Weightlifting when done correctly can strengthen and build mass, while spin/cycling can represent a good cardio workout and effective way to bulk up the legs. While yoga is also excellent as a cardio workout, unlike weights or spin/cycling, yoga provides deep stretches into muscles and joints, helping redefine the body to make it stronger, leaner and more flexible.
